Since its inception 18 years ago, Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai has consistently stressed great importance to environmental protection and energy saving. Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission and Japan’s professional energy saving organization NEDO jointly created an energy saving project for the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai. After the project is implemented, it is expected that the Garden Hotel’s energy saving can reach 14%, equivalent to almost 3 million kWh each year. This energy saving project has positive exemplary effects on building energy saving initiatives in Shanghai and the whole country. It also marks an important step we make in promoting the realization of a green hotel.

Recently, an “Energy Saving Renovation Project” kickoff ceremony was held in the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai. On the occasion, Japan JFS, the owner and hotel staff all expressed their common determination to make a success of the first building energy saving model project by Japan New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in our country. After the implementation of 10 energy saving projects, including the integrated supply of heat, power and cooling, a Building Energy Management System (BEMS), etc, it is expected that the energy saving ratio of the Garden Hotel will reach about 14%, equivalent to an annual power saving of about 3 million kWh. This project will serve as a model project for building energy saving initiatives in Shanghai and throughout the country.

The 3rd Sino-Japanese Energy-Saving and Environmental Protection Forum

The 3rd Sino-Japanese Energy-Saving and Environmental Protection Seminar, co-organized by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Japan-China Economic Association, the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Japan, was held in Tokyo on Nov. 28, 2008. At the forum both sides reached a cooperation agreement over 19 projects in relation to an Energy Saving.Environment including 13 projects in the ‘Sino-Japan Energy Saving ・Environment Business Promotion Model Program’, which also included ‘the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai Energy Saving Renovation Plan’.

Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai has all along attached great significance to energy conservation and environmental protection. Recently, it passed Green Hotel Golden Leaf Grade certification with very high score; the hotel has previously been awarded the honorable title of 2008 Advanced Unit for Energy Conservation in Luwan District and 2008 Shanghai Advanced Unit for Energy Conservation respectively.

On October 28, the Luwan District Government and the District Tourism Bureau held the “Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai Awarded Golden Leaf Grade Green Tourism Hotel” plaque awarding ceremony in the Dragon Room. Deputy Head of District Jiang Xiaolong unveiled the plaque for the hotel, which marked the green hotel work lasting for more than 2 yeas had become a complete success! This time’s successful awarding of the Green Hotel title is the best acknowledgement of the achievements attained by the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai in the aspect of green energy conservation.
